State of NRW

In the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with its 71 universities and more than 40 non-university research institutions, there is a constant will to be part of a pioneering future through the outstanding position of research. For this reason, the state government is already providing special support for research at Aachen as a university location, e.g. within the framework of the Excellence Initiative.

The funding of the Centre for the Production of Electric Vehicles continues this path and represents an important step towards strengthening electromobility in NRW and beyond the state borders. The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the start-up factory.

Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi)

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy sees electromobility as a key to sustainable mobility that is compatible with the climate and the environment. It promotes research into a wide variety of topics, ranging from charging infrastructure to intelligent cars and transport systems to the development and production of vehicles. It makes a particular contribution to identifying the opportunities offered by electromobility and supporting its implementation.
By supporting the eLAB, the BMWi is demonstrating its confidence in the research location of electromobility in Aachen.

European Union

The European Union is a diverse supporter of research questions on sustainable and cross-border mobility. Research and development of sustainable electromobility is being promoted in particular within the framework of the Green Cars Initiative. The possibility of a European leadership role in this field is supported.

NRW Ziel 2-Programm 2007-2013

A new funding period began in 2007. For North Rhine-Westphalia in concrete terms, this means that the state will receive a good 1.3 billion euros from the ERDF fund by 2013. The funds are part of the so-called Objective 2 programme for areas in which the economy is realigning itself in order to be prepared for future challenges. Together with other funds from the state government and private funds, a total of around EUR 2.5 billion is available.
The NRW Objective 2 Programme for North Rhine-Westphalia pursues three important goals:
First: Small and medium-sized enterprises and the business start-up scene are to become even stronger and more active than before. Second: Cities and regions should become more attractive and liveable. But above all - thirdly - the willingness and ability to innovate should improve throughout the state.

Operationelles Programm EFRE.NRW 2014-2020

For the new funding period 2014-2020, around EUR 2.4 billion is available for the ERDF Operational Programme NRW from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and funds provided by the State of NRW and other public and private donors. This is the largest economic and structural development programme in NRW. It is intended to achieve the objectives of the European Union's Europe 2020 Strategy and the economic and structural policy objectives of the State of NRW.

The go-ahead has been given for the new funding period of the Operational Programme NRW 2014 - 2020 for the European Regional Development Fund "Investments in Growth and Employment" (OP EFRE NRW).

As a core element of the funding strategy, funding competitions will be advertised in eight lead markets. The NRW state government has commissioned the LeitmarktAgentur.NRW to organise these lead market competitions.
This agency is based at Forschungszentrum Jülich and is a cooperation between the two Jülich project management agencies PtJ and ETN. Both project executing agencies contribute equally experienced staff to this cooperation. This ensures that the personnel capacities required for this extensive work are actually available.
